2. Why
are they in State Custody?
They are in State custody because they do not at present have a safe,
loving place to live. Many come from backgrounds of abuse and neglect.
Many are removed from what was once their home simply for their safety.

do they come from?
These children come from every kind of background imaginable and are
of diverse ethnicities.

are the ages of foster children?
They range from birth to 18 years old.

What happens to a foster child at 18?
They may leave at anytime or they may voluntarily sign themselves
in foster care. To remain in foster care, they must be in school or
employed. If they remain in foster care, DFCS will pay for their education
through college.

needs do these children have?
They need foster and adoptive parents to love and care for them. They
need clothing. They need hygiene products. They need mentors and counseling
and the list goes on.

is a foster parent?
This is a temporary living arrangement for a foster child to insure
they are in a safe environment.

long does a foster parent have a child?
? This totally depends on the specific child’s situation.

if I am a foster parent and I want to adopt my foster child?
This would be a blessing, as it would take one more child out of the
foster system.

10. What
do I have to do to become a foster parent?
There are training classes provided by DFCS. The training consists
of, 10 – three-hour sessions and a home evaluation. You can
contact the Foster Children’s Foundation, Inc. and we will put
you in touch with the right people to get you started.

I receive any support from the State?
? Yes and it varies depending on the age of the child. The support
ranges from $12.75 to $14.25 per day.

there any way I can help if I can’t be a foster or adoptive
parent?
Yes, call the Foundation and we will tell you of the many ways you
can make a difference.
