The Foster Children's Foundation’s Tomorrow Matters™ Mentoring Program is designed to teach youth in foster care necessary life skills needed to help improve their quality of life, prepare them for their future in becoming independent adults, and raise their self esteem.
The Tomorrow Matters™ Mentoring Program focuses on foster teens that are between the ages of 14 and 21 years old. The immediate focus of this program is on teens as they will be aging out of the foster care system. These youth are at a critical point in their life where it is imperative that they have the life skills needed to prepare for adulthood. When they “age out” of foster care, these youth will be on their own, regardless of preparation and previous skills learned. They will not have a parent who they can call to ask questions or for assistance. For example, if a foster teen that has just become independent needs to get car insurance but does not know who to call or how to go about the process, they will not have a parent they can call for help. The mentoring program will teach youth the skills needed to prepare for adulthood and becoming independent so that they can be productive, confident, self-sufficient, happy and healthy citizens. This will help to break the cycle and prevent these youth from becoming unemployed, homeless, and dependent upon welfare.
This program teaches youth how to prepare for independent life and empower them with knowledge and tools needed to become informed adults. Often, teens in foster care move frequently and have not necessarily learned skills essential for growth into adulthood. The Tomorrow Matters™ Mentoring Program will give them the confidence needed to face life outside of foster care.
